SpamCop Email System Tips
This page is devoted to tips and techniques to help you get the most
out of the SpamCop Email System.
Managing your held mail
You will probably want to occasionally check your held mail to see if
something was blocked that shouldn't have been. You can do this by clicking
the Held Mail icon at the very top of the
webmail or by just going
to this
link. From here, you can forward email that was held but shouldn't have
been. You can also add those senders to your own personal whitelist, to make
sure that they won't be held again.
Blocking more spam
By default, only the SpamCop Blacklist is turned on, but there are several
more you can choose. Turning these on will block a little more spam, but
might block a few more legitimate emails, too. To turn on more blacklists,
login to webmail, then
click Options, then SpamCop Tools, then "Select your email filtering blacklists."
Blocking all spam
SpamCop blocks 80-90% of all spam normally. To block all spam,
you can tell us to hold every email that is from a sender who is not on your
whitelist. Go to the blacklists section described above and check "Block All".
You can use the Held Mail management to forward the good mail and build your
whitelist.
Avoiding mail loops
The most common way to set up the mail is to forward your mail to your new
spamcop.net address or have us POP it from your current ISP. Then change your email
program to read it from our POP server. You never want to forward an account
to us and then forward from us back to that same account. This is a mail loop
and will make your mail bounce.
Configurable addresses
You can follow the first part of your email address with a + and then anything.
For example, if your email address is billybob@spamcop.net, you can receive email
sent to billybob+amazon@spamcop.net. Some people use this to filter their email
or to find out who is selling their email address.
Personal whitelists and blacklists
You can set up lists of users you want to receive email from or you never want
to receive email from. Login to webmail as above, click Options, then SpamCop
Tools.
Held Mail report
You can receive a Held Mail report on the days you choose. This report details
all the held mail you have received since the last time to logged in to webmail.
Go to the SpamCop Tools section as above, then click the first option.
